The Wurfrahmen 40, a German WW2 multiple rocket launcher, when mounted on the SdKfz 251 halftrack, used a frame with six base plates, three per side, offering greater mobility and protection than the towed Nebelwerfer. Nicknamed 'Stuka zu Fuss' or 'Heulende Kuh', it was introduced late 1940. The system featured adjustable base plates fitted over and along the vehicle, holding 300 mm HE rockets, with 280 mm HE and 320 mm incendiary rockets also used. Fired from their loading crates, these spin-stabilized rockets, while not as accurate as conventional artillery, were ripple-fired in large numbers to quickly saturate targets. The Wurfrahmen 40 served effectively as a support weapon for mobile Panzer formations, especially in urban areas.
